IELTS Speaking Part 3: Expressing and Justifying Opinions

<p>IELTS Speaking Part 3 represents the most challenging segment of the speaking test, where examiners assess your ability to discuss abstract ideas and express complex opinions. Unlike Parts 1 and 2, this section requires you to engage in a genuine two-way discussion about broader social, cultural, and global issues related to your Part 2 topic. The examiner will probe your critical thinking abilities through follow-up questions that demand justification, speculation, and analytical reasoning.</p> <p><strong>Duration and Format:</strong> This section lasts 4-5 minutes and features increasingly complex questions. You're expected to provide extended responses (3-4 sentences minimum) that demonstrate sophisticated language use, logical reasoning, and the ability to support your viewpoints with relevant examples or evidence.</p> <p><strong>Assessment Criteria:</strong> Your performance is evaluated across four dimensions: Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation. To achieve higher band scores (7+), you must go beyond simple opinions by providing nuanced perspectives, acknowledging different viewpoints, and using advanced vocabulary and grammatical structures naturally and accurately.</p>
